12/14/2004 - A blast from the past...
Many years ago (almost a decade)I wrote a book on computer viruses.
At the time I did it for fun and informational purposes. While you
can read books on EXE construction and how an operating system works,
the information may be lost if there is no direct application. Looking
at viruses provides a direction, all be it corrupted direction. When
I wrote this book I never released due to the nature of the content and
the time period. At the time of writing the viruses could have caused
some damage if they were ever released so I felt that regardless of
any good I might have intended it would have ultimately been corrupted.
Present day. Due to many changes in present day operating systems
and the advance of anti-virus software these viruses no longer pose
much of a threat. All of them are detected by many of the popular
packages and all the viruses will probably no longer even work properly.
It is due to this that I have now decided to publish this book here.
My feeling is that at this point in time it my be thought of as
interesting or just perhaps commical. Either way I present it to you
the reader for your judgement. Please feel free to send me all
comments whether good, bad, or just to say the sky is blue (as a
programmer I don't get out much so knowing the sky is blue is
helpful <grin>).
